war left her a citizen of no country. had a face full of stories, wore babushkas, worried she'd get cancer from pay phones, baked bread when she cleaned. she taught me herbs for sore throats, upset stomachs and broken hearts.
I was never sure if she meant literal or figurative broken hearts, and have to say (full disclosure) that while I've never had cardiac issues, at the only point i was ever desperate enough to try her concoction for the other kind of broken heart,it helped only in the sense of feeling that the possibility of magic existed! But- slippery elm, hyssop, agrimony & horehound for sore throats, ginger and spearmint for tummies, and for a broken heart, you make a tea by steeping yarrow & bay leaves, borage, lavender, & basil & drink it with honey. And be sure to let me know if you try it!!!
I'm a cook. And I write, sometimes about food, mostly poems. I make stuff. I get lost. I'm worried about vanishing bees, melting icecaps, the decrease of civility in the world, seedless watermelons, and whether there will be enough time for me to get it all right.
