not intentionally, she was just patient...taught me to read by stopping at stamped sidewalks, fingers tracing letters. gave me all the flower names i know. calls me an angel & knows better. but to her, i am always good enough.
I like you, prefer to hold on to the memories of her from our earlier years, decades ago. But, she has changed.....She is not the same grandma to our children as she was to us. Not sure when, why or how, but she changed. It could have been after grandpa died or it could have been after her accident. Regardless, it breaks my heart that my boys won't have the same fond memories of her as we do.
she may have changed in how she relates to children, but she's never stopped believing that we're angels. your boys will build their own memories with their own grandmothers-it won't be the same, but it will be theirs, and probably as special to them. and we can consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have one that was who she was/is to us.
I'm a cook. And I write, sometimes about food, mostly poems. I make stuff. I get lost. I'm worried about vanishing bees, melting icecaps, the decrease of civility in the world, seedless watermelons, and whether there will be enough time for me to get it all right.

That's the best kind of angel.
