didn't meet her until she was in her 90's. she served sun tea with grilled cheese, & sliced garden tomatoes. spent the afternoon showing me old photographs, letting me know i was part of the family pictured. she loved every face.
she was my great-grandmother. and this first meeting began a lovely and enlightening correspondence that continued for ten years until she died. She was a wise woman. Sounds like your friend was too!
I'm a cook. And I write, sometimes about food, mostly poems. I make stuff. I get lost. I'm worried about vanishing bees, melting icecaps, the decrease of civility in the world, seedless watermelons, and whether there will be enough time for me to get it all right.

This is lovely. It reminds me of my friend Frances (my #168)
